Domain Registration & Hosting

We will gladly purchase domains on your behalf, either as part of the process of acquiring hosting for a brand new web site, or when additional domains are part of a Search Engine Optimization process.

Good news: Domains are cheap.

Bad news: All the REALLY good ones are probably gone.

That's not to say you can't still find some pretty good ones, its just a challenge now.

What domain types should you get?

.edu is for educational institutions

.gov are for governmental entities

.com is what most people automatically look for if not one of the above

.net is a reasonable alternative to .com as there is more choice left, but most people automatically type .com even when they are told to go to .net so you may generate traffic for someone else's web site if you promote a .net domain.

.org used to only be for non-profits, but the rules have loosened on this type

.us, .name, .info, .biz, .tv, there are dozens (hundreds?) of domain suffixes - many being country specific such as .co.uk

There are also hundreds of companies from which you can purchase domains. Some support more country suffixes than others. Most are similarly priced as domains have become something of a commodity.

While we are not a domain name registrar, we will purchase domains on your behalf should you wish, particularly if you want to add domains on to an existing web site.

We typically purchase domains from one of two sources:

GoDaddy.com or Blue Host. As we tend to offer Blue Host as our preferred hosting platform it often makes sense to purchase the domain from the same source. Its not necessary however and there is something to be said for keeping hosting and domain registration seperate and independant of each other.
